![]() Rsync -rvt -e "ssh" above-mentioned lines are 1 command line, of course. This has the advantage that in case a laptop is stolen or lost, a desktop or laptop needs to be repaired, most of the data is encrypted.ī) instead of synchronizing an unencrypted directory tree to a BC drive, which encryption directory is part of Strato's storage, synchronize a local encrypted BC directory tree to Strato's rsync server, for example : ![]() In addition, rsync clients are meant to talk to rsync servers efficiently, in this case Strato's rsync server, therefore I would use the following configuration:Ī) BC's encryption directory is on my local harddisk, most of my home directory files and subdirectories are stored in BC's drive. There are several reasons to organize issues a bit differently, because I occasionaly find that Mac OS networking behavior is not what I want. We're about to add HiDrive as an additional online storage provider, will test this scenario too.įirst of all, I'm not 100 % sure whether I understand your BoxCryptor + Strato HiDrive configuration, correct me if I made some wrong assumptions.ġ) Strato's remote storage is mounted as a WebDAV (SSL) drive.Ģ) The unencrypted sources that you want to store are somewhere on a local harddisk.ģ) Boxcryptor's encryption directory points to a directory that's part of Strato's drive.Ĥ) Rsync is used to synchronize your unencrypted source directory to BoxCryptor's drive, while BC's encrypted directory is part of Strato's drive. In case you connect to Strato's HiDrive rsync server directly ( while the storage is mounted as a WebDAV volume ) and are rsyncing BoxCryptor's encrypted directory tree ( while BC's drive is mounted ), the problem you describe is somewhat weird. Is rsync accessing BoxCryptors "Z" drive, that is, are you rsyncing unencrypted files to Strato's HiDrive storage, or is BoxCryptors volume unmounted while you access BoxCryptor's encrypted directory tree ? the boxcryptor volume seems to unmount itself. Using rsync client software, my # 2 method would be: access Hidrive's storage as a mounted volume, using SMB / CIFS over VPN, but I can hardly imagine that's more efficient / robust than connecting to HiDrive's rsync server directly. Using rsync client software, our # 1 method is: don't access HiDrive's storage as a mounted volume, but connect to HiDrive's rsync server directly to access your storage, rsync over SSH, that's how rsync was meant to be used -) The combination of rsync over SSH and Strato's HiDrive is very efficient / fast. That's probably the last solution I would think off. This volume is mounted via Webdav (ssl).ĭo you mean you use rsync to access Strato's HiDrive as a WebDAV ( SSL ) mounted volume ?
